Wang Ziyun is the inheritor of Tang and Song court techniques, the general director of the expert group for the restoration of cultural relics in the Forbidden City and the restoration of murals in the Mogao Grottoes of Dunhuang, an academician of the Palace Museum Ancient Characters Research Institute, a visiting professor of the Central Academy of Fine Arts and Tsinghua Academy of Fine Arts, and a winner of the Lifetime Achievement Award in Contemporary Painting. As the general director of the expert group on the restoration of ancient relics and ancient murals in China, he is engaged in the restoration and research of ancient murals, stone carvings and wood carvings in the Palace Museum, Yongle Palace, the Mogao Grottoes of Dunhuang, Longmen Grottoes, Yungang Grottoes and other places. Since the 1990s, Wang Ziyun has restored more than 500 ancient murals for China, including the the Mogao Grottoes of Dunhuang, and has made outstanding contributions to the development of China's cultural undertakings.
