Fang Shujiu

Fang Shujiu, a famous painter, was born in Huainan City, Anhui Province, China in July 1943. Strong love for painting and great talent. In 1960, he was admitted to the Fine Arts Department of the High School Affiliated to Nanjing Academy of Arts; In 1963, he was admitted to the Plastic Arts Department of Wuxi Light Industry University (now Jiangnan University); He used to be an associate professor of Suzhou Urban Construction and Environmental Protection Institute, director of Environmental Art Research Institute and senior designer. He is now an art professor of the American Leach University of Science and Technology, an honorary researcher of the Canadian Cultural Renewal Research Center (Academy), a visiting professor of the Art School of Southeast University of China, the president of the Kowloon Art Research Institute, the director of the American East West Art Center and the executive chairman of the International Overseas Chinese Culture and Art Federation, an academician of the American Academy of Art, the honorary president of the Chinese Painting Society (USA), the first president and art director of the New York Poetry, Painting, Qin, Chess, Calligraphy and Painting Academy, Chinese state guest ceremony artist, national first-class artist, visiting professor of Tsinghua Academy of Fine Arts.

Over the years, Fang Shujiu has been proficient in different painting techniques in China and the West. His works integrate ancient and modern culture, eastern and western skills, various artistic elements and techniques, and show the spirit of his works with a new aesthetic perspective and unique cultural connotation. He is good at painting animals, and his series of paintings of dragon, horse and tiger are also most appreciated. He combined the spirit of the dragon and the horse, exaggerated the length and rhythm of the horse's mane and tail, and integrated the image of the dragon winding forward and the spirit of striving into the horse painting and the waves of the sea, forming a new image of "dragon and horse" with unique personal characteristics. A literary critic once said: "Xu Beihong created the galloping horse, Yin Libo of Taiwan painted the heavenly horse, and Fang Shujiu painted the dragon horse, which are three milestones in the art of horse painting." For Fang Shujiu, accomplishments are embodied in his paintings. Painting is the expression of his inner world. Thousands of mountains and rivers in his heart can be expressed through his paintings.

As he drew a tiger painting, he used ink painting, a traditional painting method, to depict a tiger under two moons. The male tiger gazed at the bright moon in the sky, and the female tiger lay beside the root of a tree, a bleak picture.

The tiger in his works is both powerful and affectionate; It is a natural tiger, a cultural tiger, and a smart tiger that can observe the vicissitudes of human life.

As an international famous artist, Mr. Fang Shujiu is the founder of American overseas Chinese culture and art and the president of the Kowloon Art Institute. Many of his works have been widely praised, and he has published such monographs as Fang Shujiu's Collection of Works. He has won the Certificate of World Artistic Celebrity, the 20th Century Achievement Award, the gold award signed by the Supreme Commander of Thailand, the American Outstanding Artist Award, and the Honorary Citizen of Mongolia, etc. He also published such monographs as World Who's Who, Collection of Works of World Contemporary Artists, and Yearbook of Chinese American Celebrities. With his unique perspective and excellent vision, this composite artist with an international perspective has walked out of a wonderful artistic life. At the "International Academic Seminar on Fang Shujiu's Works" held by Columbia University in the United States, his cross-border and multifaceted creation took the Chinese traditional artistic spirit as the foundation, appropriately absorbed some characteristics of western art, and expressed his feelings by borrowing things: his works, while full of human feelings, embodied profound ideological and epochal characteristics. Thus, it has formed its unique overseas Chinese style art works, which has been highly recognized by experts and scholars. He is a painter with thoughts, conscience and a sense of social responsibility. Some of his representative works have been praised as "great realistic works" of great value and have been recorded in the literature history.
