Chinese landscape painting is an art that pursues spirituality. About Zhang Dongsheng:

Zhang Dongsheng, a teacher of institutions of higher learning and a member of the Chinese Artists Association, once studied in Tianjin Academy of Fine Arts and studied under Mr. Wang Songyu, Bai Gengyan, Lv Yunsuo, etc. He is now teaching in the School of Art and Design of Yanshan University, an associate professor, a standing director of China National Painters Association, and a member of Hebei Artists Association. Director of the Artists Association of Qinhuangdao City, and special painter of Qinhuangdao Painting Academy. Many works have been selected into the national art exhibition held by the China Artists Association. Works and papers have been published and published in Fine Arts, Chinese Painters, Grand View of Art, and Chinese Calligraphy and Pictorial Newspaper for many times. Works have been collected by some collectors, collection institutions, and art museums.

In 1991, "Cast Fortress: Military and Civilian Love", "Art Exhibition of the 70th Anniversary of the Founding of the Party in Hebei Province", won the Excellence Award (Shijiazhuang).

In 1992, Tang Poetry "The Third Sports Art Exhibition of Hebei Province" won the second prize (Shijiazhuang).

In 1994, From afar to afar won the first prize of Hebei Province's "Art Exhibition Celebrating the 45th Anniversary of the Founding of the People's Republic of China" (Shijiazhuang).

In 1995, "Plateau Love" won the first prize of the "Third Chinese Calligraphy, Painting and Seal Cutting Competition at Home and Abroad" (Shanghai).

In 1998, "Autumn Sound and Drizzle" won the bronze prize (Shanghai) of "the fourth section of the Chinese calligraphy, painting and seal cutting competition at home and abroad".

In 2001, the Chinese Painting and Calligraphy Exhibition (Shanhai Pass) was held.
