Lu Yao (December 2, 1949- November 17, 1992), male, real name Wang Weiguo, born in Qingjian County, Yulin, northern Shaanxi, is a contemporary Chinese writer with representative works such as "The Ordinary World" and "Life". Formerly served as a member of the Party Group and Vice Chairman of the Shaanxi Branch of the Chinese Writers Association.


Lu Yao was born on December 2, 1949 in Qingjian County, Shanbei Mountain Area, Shaanxi Province, to a poor peasant family. At the age of 7, he was adopted to his uncle in rural Yanchuan County due to family difficulties. I studied at Yanchuan County High School and returned to my hometown to work in agriculture in 1969. During this period, he did many temporary jobs and taught for a year in a rural primary school. In 1973, he entered the Chinese Department of Yan'an University to study, during which he continued his literary creation. After graduating from university, he served as the editor of Shaanxi Literature and Art (now Yanhe). In 1980, he published "A Shocking Scene" and won the first National Excellent Novelty Award. In 1982, he published the novella "Life" and later adapted it into a movie. In 1988, he completed the million word long masterpiece "The Ordinary World", which, with its grand momentum and epic style, presents a panoramic view of the social life and tremendous changes in people's thoughts and emotions in urban and rural China during the reform era. In 1991, Lu Yao won the Mao Dun Literature Award for this. On the morning of November 17, 1992, Lu Yao passed away in Xi'an due to ineffective treatment for liver cirrhosis and ascites.


On December 18, 2018, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the State Council awarded Lu Yao the title of Reform Pioneer, awarded the Reform Pioneer Medal, and awarded him the title of Outstanding Writer Encouraging billions of rural youth to devote themselves to reform and opening up. On September 23, 2019, "The Ordinary World" was selected as the "Collection of 70 Long Novels in the 70 Years of New China". On September 25, 2019, Lu Yao was selected as the "Most Beautiful Struggler".
