Zhang Hai, born in September 1941 in Yanshi City, Henan Province, is a lifelong honorary professor at Zhengzhou University. He is currently the Honorary Chairman of the Chinese Calligraphers Association, Deputy Director of the Calligraphy and Painting Studio of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, Honorary Chairman of the Henan Federation of Literary and Art Circles, Dean and Doctoral Supervisor of the School of Calligraphy at Zhengzhou University, and an expert with outstanding contributions approved by the State Council. He has served as a representative of the 8th, 9th, and 10th National People's Congress, a member of the 11th and 12th Standing Committee of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, the Chairman of the 5th and 6th Presidium of the Chinese Calligraphers Association, the Chairman of the Henan Federation of Literary and Art Circles, the Chairman of the Henan Calligraphers Association, the Dean of the School of Fine Arts at Zhengzhou University, and the President of the Henan Calligraphy and Painting Academy. His calligraphy works won first prize at the Henan Calligraphy Exhibition in 1980, gold medal at the first "Longmen Award", and national award at the "Fifth National Calligraphy and Seal Cutting Exhibition" in 1992. In 2018, he was awarded the honorary title of "Lifetime Achievement Calligrapher of the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles". The theoretical articles "The Era Calls for Classic Masters of Chinese Calligraphy" and "A Brief Discussion on Contemporary Calligraphy" have respectively won the Special Award of the 7th China Federation of Literary and Art Critics Award and the Outstanding Work Award of the 3rd "Woodpecker Cup" China Literature and Art Critics Annual Award.
