Zhao Yaxi, born in March 1960, is a worker from Juegang, Rudong, Jiangsu Province. He is of Han ethnicity, holds a bachelor's degree, and is a standardization and supervision engineer. His stage names include Jianghuai Hou, Zuojiang Jun, and Bieshan Wang, his pen name is Wubi, and his elegant nickname is Zuimo.
As a young calligrapher, he studied under renowned masters Liu Xiao, Liu Xinming, and Liu Yunhe, specializing in Han Dynasty official script and also practicing seal script and bamboo slips. He mastered these styles and practiced calligraphy for 8 hours daily. In the early 1980s, he joined the Jiangsu Calligraphers Association. He won the second prize in the Jiangsu Provincial Workers' Calligraphy Competition, the Excellence Award for New Groups, the third prize in the national "Wenyuan Cup" official script competition, the first prize in the national "Ode to the Motherland" joint competition of thirty provinces, the first prize in the Chinese "Dadi Cup" official script competition, and the third prize in the Chinese "Huaxia Star" official script competition. He was also recognized as a "Book Collector of Rudong County" and one of the top ten reading figures in Xinhua's "Book Fate" program, as well as a collector.
In November 2023, he was appointed as an academician of the Beijing Wenyuan Calligraphy and Painting Academy. In August 2024, he joined the National Association of Middle-aged and Elderly Calligraphers and Painters. In 2025, he became a member of the China Hard Pen Calligraphy Association, the China Calligraphers Association, and the China Couplet Society. His works in official script (simplified) are included in the "Chinese Character Writing" database. He is a key recommended artist by the National Literature and Art Publishing House.
Using the metaphor of a "lonely mouse", he adheres to the "ink field", pursues artistic realm with the heart of "drunken ink", practices the way of "understanding the brush", and demonstrates the artistic vitality of an old horse still striving.
